In India, millions of people work hard every day as delivery partners, shop staff, drivers, helpers, and technicians. Yet, for a long time, there was no proper digital platform made specially for them to find jobs easily. This problem gave birth to Apna, one of India’s fastest-growing job startups.

Curiosity to Courage

Apna was founded by Nirmit Parikh, an entrepreneur who always loved building things. From a young age, Nirmit showed interest in technology and problem-solving. He learned coding early and later studied engineering in India. His journey then took him abroad, where he worked with top global companies like Apple and Intel.

At Apple, Nirmit worked on world-class products and enjoyed a comfortable life. However, during visits to India, he noticed something troubling. Skilled and hardworking people were struggling to find jobs, while companies were unable to hire the right workers on time. Most job websites were designed only for white-collar professionals and ignored blue- and grey-collar workers.

This gap stayed in Nirmit’s mind. He realized that India needed a simple, mobile-first job platform that anyone could use, even without strong English skills or technical knowledge. With this thought, he made a bold decision, he quit his high-paying job and returned to India to build something meaningful.

In 2019, Nirmit launched Apna in Bengaluru. The name “Apna” means “ours,” and it perfectly matched the startup’s goal, to create a platform that belongs to India’s working population.

From the beginning, Apna was not just about job listings. The focus was on innovation through simplicity. The app allowed users to create profiles in minutes using basic details like skills, location, and experience. No complicated resumes, no heavy English, and no confusing steps.

Apna also used smart technology to match job seekers with nearby employers. This helped workers save time and money while helping businesses hire faster. The platform worked smoothly even on low-cost smartphones, which made it accessible to millions.

Innovation Beyond Jobs

One of Apna’s biggest innovations was building communities inside the app. Users could join groups related to their profession, city, or interest. Here, people shared job updates, work tips, and even emotional support.

This feature turned Apna into more than a job app, it became a professional social network for India’s workforce. People who once felt invisible finally had a space where they felt seen and valued.

Apna also helped small businesses and startups hire workers without paying high recruitment fees. This created a win-win system for both sides.

Apna’s real test came during the COVID-19 pandemic. Job losses were rising, and uncertainty was everywhere. Instead of slowing down, Apna became even more important. Workers used the app to find new opportunities, while employers relied on it to restart operations.

The startup grew rapidly across cities and towns. Within a short time, Apna crossed millions of users and partnered with thousands of companies. Its strong growth, clear vision, and impact attracted global investors.

Soon, Apna reached unicorn status, with its valuation crossing billions. But for the team, success was not just about numbers. It was about helping people earn a living with dignity.
